new humanoid robot with amazingly realistic facial expressions

A UK robotics company called Engineered Arts has unveiled an impressive new humanoid robot that has strikingly realistic facial expressions.

A video released by the company shows the grey-faced robot as it wakes up, changes its face into a shocked grimace, and then analyses its hands as if it doesn’t believe what’s happening to it.

But at the end of the video, the humanoid robot named Ameca stares into the camera and smiles, as if to say “Gotcha!“.

“A platform for the development of future robotics technologies

The illusion is interesting, as the sequence was most likely filmed a long time ago, but this is another impressive example of the progress made in robotics.

The Engineered Arts company considers the robot “a platform for the development of future robotics technologies”.

The robot is designed to allow us to better study and understand human-robot interaction, and believable facial expressions can be a huge help, writes Futurism.

Humanoid robot available for purchase and rental

Engineered Arts’ robot is also available for purchase and rental for various events, but a price has not yet been revealed.

However, it should be noted that although the robot has amazing facial expressions, Ameca is not yet able to walk.

Ameca is a modular robot, and we plan to upgrade its abilities over time so that Ameca can walk someday” the company’s official page states.
