Summer sports and their health benefits

Many of you probably know the saying “a healthy mind in a healthy body” which is more true than ever now in times of pandemics and restrictions of all kinds. The work at home over the last year or the lack of movement is taking its toll on our mental and physical health.

Fortunately the restrictions are starting to lift, gyms and swimming pools are opening up, the outdoor mask is being dropped, summer is here, so it’s only right that we pay more attention to sport and movement.

Everyone knows about the health benefits of sport, we’ll just list a few of the most important ones that might motivate you to leave your comfort aside: good looks, positive mental tone, increased energy, less stress, healthier cardiovascular system, stronger bones, better breathing, and many other scientifically proven benefits.

You can choose to exercise in an organised, instructor-led setting, or you can choose to exercise in nature, enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. In our article we will focus on sports activities that we can do outdoors, enjoying the sun and nature, at our own pace, without chasing sports performances.

Outdoor sports activities, ideal for the summer season:

Swimming.

Probably the most complex sport, swimming is probably the most enjoyable and sought-after summer activity, both by children and adults. Whether you go to the sea, to outdoor pools (there are some in every city), lakes or rivers, the important thing is to get moving and practice. If you don’t know how to swim, don’t hesitate to ask an instructor to teach you. You can practice it on weekends or holidays.

Cycling.

Like swimming, cycling is a great way to exercise your whole body and can be done with family or friends, in the woods or parks, whenever the weather is nice. Cycling is easy to learn, it is already a trend all over the world to use bicycles as a means of transport in cities, so it can be practiced daily, with double benefits (free transport and sport). You can also check out our range of bike accessories or even solar lamps.

Urban fitness.

How about instead of doing crunches at the gym, you do them in the park?

Or instead of walking on the stairs of a stadium? If you want to improve your fitness, look good but also stay in nature, then urban fitness is the way to go. If in the West it is an activity with many years of age, the pandemic context (with closed gyms) has made it to be adopted by the Romanians, more and more. If you are just starting out you can join a group, or even individual sessions to learn the basic moves.

You will certainly find some other sports activities:

  • tennis,
  • volleyball,
  • yoga, etc.,

that are good to practice in summer, but the important thing is to get moving, to get to work.
